There is only one week left of classes and then two more days of finals and then I am DONE!

I am REALLY excited.

I might get a Trillium tattoo instead of an Azalea. A trillium looks like this:

Lizano!

This is my spectacular birthday present from Evan! The FedEx guy just brought it to me like 2 minutes ago! I first tasted this heavenly sauce while in Costa Rica, and soon realized that the tiny little bottle we brought back was just not good enough. The key to it's awesomeness is the little bit of mustard, or mostaza in Spanish, that they add to the sauce. Amazing! And I got 3 bottles!!!!!! I dare say it is even better than ketchup, which for me, is saying A LOT!

I am going to go for a post-hot chocolate powder run now.

Hot Chocolate

I'm just sitting here eating hot chocolate powder (yes I know that is a really weird thing to do, but it is delicious and you should try it because it works quite well if there is not other chocolate in the house) and being happy that I made it through my genetics test! I think I did alright too! AND I got a 82% on the last quiz, so hopefully that is a good sign that I WONT be failing the class!

I'm happy because Evan is coming home from Laytonville after helping his parents do some post-5 feet-of-snow cleanup around the property. He will probably not be happy because I finished off the hot chocolate powder...Oh well!

I am feeling a bit of a sugar high right now.....

Four More Weeks

As the train in Dumbo said, I think I can, I think I can, I think I can.....make it through the last four weeks of school. Three more weeks of classes and then 2 days of finals.

This is the hardest semester I have had so far in my college career.

The Hill That Ate Hwy. 101

That is the title of the article in the local newspaper about the landslide that completely covered 101, just 5 miles north of Garberville. This right is right smack dab in the middle of Evan and I's path to Laytonville. That is a 4 lane highway down there by the way.

This happened on Wednesday March 30th, so a little over 2 weeks ago. Evan and I had been planning to go to Laytonville that weekend and ended up going anyways like couple of idiots. Everything turned out fine and surprisingly it only took us an extra hour to take the dirt back roads.

On the way there the dirt road we were supposed to turn onto off of 101 had had its sign taken down (most likely by locals who didn't want no stinkin' city folk driving up their roads) and when we went into town to ask about it one guy asked what kind of truck we were driving and still looked doubtful when he saw Evan's muddy 4x4 truck. The other guy in there said "Your in Humboldt County now, if you see someone, you'd better duck". Somewhat laughable because Evan's parents live in Mendocine Count, which is the next one over, and they also live up a dirt road. They told us where the road was and we were feeling fine until the road took us right through someones driveway that had sign that said " Permission needs to be asked before driving through this driveway" so we kinda just went through and didn't see any rednecks with guns. The drive was beautiful and it was a fun adventure.

On the way back, we tried to take the same road and were stopped by CalTrans and asked where we were headed. We were prepared for this by the woman in the gas station in Garberville and said we were going to visit friends 2 miles down the road and they let us through! Northbound traffic was supposed to take a different route that would've added another hour to the drive making it 4 and half hours total. At least we had a little adventure, and saw some beautiful sights in Humboldt County.

3 blog posts in less than an hour=success

New Tattoo?

So I ended up drinking a bit too much wine and champagne last Thursday evening, while having a fun night with Jordan and Richelle, and we got on the topic of tattoos. We were talking about all getting something that symbolizes Humboldt. We were thinking some kind of Rhododendron or Azalea flowers like these ones:

As many of you already know I have a tattoo of a Plumeria on my right ankle. My idea is to put an Azalea right next to my Plumeria so that in the future I can add other flowers that signify important events and eras in my life to make a little chain. But, I also want it to look good even if I don't decide to make it into a chain one day. Who knows if this will actually happen, considering that tattoos are expensive and I am trying to save as much money as possible for EspaƱa.

Yay!I

So it looks like everything is working out for me! I am going to receive 8 units of credit for my job in Spain AND I can do my senior project over there as well, which is shaping up to be "Macrolichens of Mallorca", that is, if I end up living in Mallorca. The great thing is that the project I have to do to get that 8 units for Spanish is anything that shows I am continuing my Spanish education. So I am thinking something along the line of "Botany and Organic Agriculture of Mallorca". And THAT means that I can graduate in one more semester when I return with my botany major AND my botany minor!!! HOORAH! And, not to mention, Evan and I are going to live surrounded by beaches like this one!

I am really sad though because the Gogel Bordello concert was cancelled : ( We are still going to have a ton of fun on the day after my brithday at the http://humboldthomebrewfest.com/index.html Evan's dad might enter some of his homebrew in the competition, but that isn't for sure yet. Personally I don't like his beer because it is all dark Porters and Stouts, which are not to my liking. Unfortately, the day of my birthday, which is a Friday, and the 2 days preceding it I have a Spanish seminar on the Mexican Revolution from 6-10. It will be very interesting but there are things I would rather be doing like hanging out with friends and celebrating! Oh well, that is what the weekend is for right?

After tomorrow, only 4 more weeks of classes!!! I am so burnt out on school and ready for it to be over for a year and a half! Estoy listo!

Amigas

I'm sad because the woman that I have been going to to get waxed for the last 3 years is moving away. We have become friends over the years and I will miss our monthly conversations...It is kinda ok because I am going to be moving away to Spain (yay!) but that is just one more part of life that will be really different when we come back to Humboldt. My best friends (probably) won't be here because they will have graduated and that will be hard. But lucky for me there is skype, email, and facebook to keep in contact :). I'm glad that I will have time to stay in touch with my friends when I am in Spain, BECAUSE I'M GOING TO MISS THEM SO MUCH!!!

Speaking of friends, I can't wait for our girls night with champagne and mexican food!
